Reflections from Rompiendo Estigmas
This October, we had the privilege of joining Rompiendo Estigmas, the 7th Annual Latin Symposium, hosted by United Way Broward’s Coalition on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention, in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC), Children’s Services Council of Broward County, Memorial Healthcare System, and Broward County Public Schools.
It was a day dedicated to open, honest conversations about mental health in the Latin community, a topic that deserves both courage and compassion. Surrounded by inspiring voices, including María Celeste Arrarás, Dr. Erika Monroy, and Karolina Lama, we were reminded that healing begins when we choose to talk about what truly matters.
Why Breaking Stigmas Matters
For many in our community, mental health can still feel like a taboo subject, something kept quiet or brushed aside. But events like this remind us that vulnerability is strength, and that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, but of wisdom and self-love.
Each story shared at Rompiendo Estigmas carried a message of hope: that by talking openly about our struggles, we give others permission to do the same. This is how we begin to heal together.
As Doris and Jeanette reflected, “Working on ourselves isn’t just personal growth; it’s an act of service to our families and our community.”
Grateful for Connection
We are deeply grateful to United Way Broward, BBHC, Children’s Services Council of Broward County, Memorial Healthcare System, and Broward County Public Schools for creating a space where these conversations can happen with warmth and authenticity.
Community events like these remind us that every conversation, no matter how small, can create ripples of change. By continuing to show up, share, and listen, we build a future where mental health is nurtured, not stigmatized.
At Full Time Human, we remain committed to supporting spaces that inspire healing, growth, and connection. Because when we choose to break stigmas, we also choose to grow stronger together.
